Former interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Monday demanded that army chief Gen Asim Munir announce amnesty for all those languishing in jails in connection with the May 9 riots.
“People have suffered tremendously in May 9-related cases. All innocents must be granted amnesty,” the chief of the Awami Muslim League said while speaking to the media on the District Courts premises.
Rashid reiterated his appeal to Gen Munir and ISI Director General Nadeem Anjum to grant amnesty to the innocent people, noting that the authority held by the ruling coalition was quite insignificant.
He also expressed concern over the way PTI women leaders Alia Hamza and Sanam Javed were being transferred from one jail to another.
Rashid said politicising the battle over Form 45 and Form 47 would only lead the country into a pit, as well as the devastation of the country’s economy.
In response to a query about the India-Pakistan T20 match, Rashid said the feelings of the Pakistani people were hurt.
