Wattoo appears before NAB

LAHORE: Former chief minister Mian Manzoor Wattoo appeared before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in a case of illegal appointments in the Utility Stores Corporation.

The combined investigation team of NAB quizzed Mr Wattoo for more than an hour for appointing 400 persons in the the USC in violation of merit when he was federal minister for industries during the 2008-13 PPP rule.

According to the NAB, Mr Wattoo made appointments mostly from Okara, Bahawalpur and Mandi Bahauddin. The NAB asked him to submit a detailed reply in 10 days.

Mr Wattoo denied any illegal appointment during his tenure as federal minister. He said he remained federal minister for five years but did not make any property here nor abroad. “I served jail term for three years and after 1997 my family faced a number of political cases and this complaint has also been filed against me on political grounds,” he said.

Earlier, the NAB had summoned Wattoo last month but he did not appear before the investigation team.
