Lahore: Due to heightened security concerns, all future court hearings of the founding chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will now be conducted via video link from Adiala Jail, sources confirmed.
According to reports, the Punjab Home Department has officially approved the move following recommendations from jail authorities. Under the new decision, the PTI founder will attend all upcoming court proceedings remotely through a video link system set up within the jail premises.
Officials said that the necessary arrangements for activating the video link system have been completed, and relevant courts have been notified about the new procedure.
However, defense lawyer Faisal Malik strongly opposed the decision, declaring that the “video link WhatsApp call trial” is unacceptable. He said, “This is an attempt to isolate the PTI founder. Such a trial undermines the right to a free and fair hearing.”
Malik added that Article 10-A of the Constitution guarantees an open and transparent trial, asserting that lawyers and family members must be allowed to attend in person. He warned that the defense team will boycott any such virtual proceedings, labeling them as a violation of due process.
