Pakistan

LAHORE: A district and sessions court judge on Monday issued notices to the Lahore capital city police officer (CCPO) and the police complaint redressal cell on a petition seeking the registration of a case against the participants of Aurat March 2019 for their alleged immoral and unconstitutional act.

Amina Malik of Civil Society Network filed the petition under section 22-A and 22-B of CrPC pleading that an application had been submitted with the Civil Lines station house officer (SHO) for the registration of a first information report against the participants of the Aurat March.

Her lawyer said the SHO was reluctant to lodge thee case. He argued that the participants of the march displayed placards with immoral slogans.

He said the act of the women participants of the march was against the Constitution and Islamic injunctions. He asked the court to order the police to lodge a case against the participants, including singer Meesha Shafi and rights activist Nighat Dad.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Amir Habib issued notices to the CCPO and the complaint redressal cell of the police for May 14.
