The Lahore High Court on Thursday suspended a notification of fixing drug prices “which would cause inflation.”

A commoner, Muhammad Aslam, a day ago challenged the notification through Advocate Nadeem Sarwar of fixing the prices of medicines making the federal government and others parties to the dispute.

The petitioner submitted that the caretaker government issued the notification to fix the prices of medicines which is contrary to the law. After issuance of the notification, the prices of medicines would increase, he added.

The petitioner stated that the government was tampering with the Drug Act and removing the section regarding fixing the prices of medicines. The caretaker government does not have power [to amend a law].

A democratic government is in the offing, elected representatives have the right to amend laws, he continued.

The petitioner pleaded that the present notification is contrary to the constitution and law, and requested the court to order its suspension till the final decision.
