ISLAMABAD: Owing to Pakistan’s “unpredictable” security situation, the Canadian government has issued a travel advisory for its citizens who are planning to travel to the South Asian nation, The News reported citing diplomatic sources in Islamabad on Saturday.

According to the sources, Ottawa’s advisory was issued to ensure the safety of Canadian citizens in Pakistan.

In Pakistan, the Canadian High Commission instructed its citizens to exercise extreme caution due to the unpredictable security situation, avoid unnecessary travel, and avoid travelling to the border areas of Pakistan.

The high commission also instructed them to avoid travel to areas within 50 kilometres of the Afghanistan border and within 10kms of the borders of China, India and Iran, as well as avoid unnecessary travel to Karachi city due to the threat of violence and terrorism.

The Canadian government has also recommended safety measures for its citizens, including avoiding areas where demonstrations and large gatherings are taking place, and always being aware of your surroundings in public places, and carrying photo identification at all times.

It suggested to Canadian citizens that they remain prepared to change their travel plans at short notice, stay tuned to local media to keep abreast of the changing situation and follow the instructions of local authorities.

It is important to note that the fresh advisory comes as the country witnesses a sharp increase in terror incidents specially in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
