CAA-PAF land dispute: parliamentary body hints at reviewing Lahore’s master plan

Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: A sub-committee of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has hinted at reviewing the master plan of Lahore to address some land-related audit objections of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

The committee’s meeting, convened by Senator Shibli Faraz, examined the land-related disputes of the CAA.

The meeting observed that in order to ascertain facts, it was imperative to go through the revenue record since 1947.

The CAA land was exchanged with other government institutions and the auditor general of Pakistan raised a number of audit paras on alleged irregularities in such deals.

Since the sub-committee was examining the paras related to the CAA’s land in Lahore and found anomalies, Senator Faraz remarked that the committee might review the master plan of Lahore.

The committee while examining an audit para related to conversion of the CAA land into a housing scheme of the Pakistan Air Force sought details of the agreement between the CAA and the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) for establishing a housing scheme on the state land.

The audit report presented to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) stated that “during audit it was found that Civil Aviation Authority (GM Walton Aerodrome Lahore) could not get vacated CAA land at Walton Aerodrome measuring 19.21 acre from PAF…This resulted in unjustified/unauthorised occupation of CAA land valuing Rs1921.00 million.”
