Bike makers jack up prices

KARACHI: Atlas Honda Ltd (AHL) made its third price jump in various two-wheeler models by Rs600-2,000 from Mar 1.

The new price of CD70, CD Dream, Pridor 100cc, CG125 and CB150F have been fixed at Rs70,500, Rs74,500, Rs96,500, Rs116,500 and Rs191,900 versus Rs69,900, Rs73,900, Rs95,900, Rs115,900 and Rs189,900, respectively.

Yamaha Motor Pakistan Ltd also jacked up the rates from Mar 1 with YB125Z now costing Rs127,500 instead of Rs123,500, YBR125G Rs149,500 as against Rs144,500 and YBR125 Rs144,500 versus Rs139,500.

AHL had raised prices at least six times in 2018 despite claims of over 90 per cent localisation while this is Yamaha Motor’s second jump in the current year.

Assemblers have been passing on the impact of rising cost of imported parts and accessories to the consumers linking it to the rupee devaluation against the dollar. The local currency had lost its strength against the greenback by 26pc from January 2018 to January 2019.

The overall import bill of completely and semi-knocked down kits for two-wheelers went up by 4.13pc to $63 million in July-January 2018-2019.
