London: Pakistani nationals topped the list of asylum seekers in the United Kingdom in 2024, according to a report by The Telegraph.
The report states that out of 40,000 asylum applications submitted in 2024, over 11,000 were filed by Pakistanis. This figure is five times higher than in 2022, making Pakistan the country with the highest number of asylum applications among 175 nations.
Key Details
- All Pakistani applicants initially entered the UK legally via visit, work, or student visas before applying for asylum.
- The surge highlights concerns about the misuse of the UK’s visa and border systems.
Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp called the situation a “complete failure” of the visa system and emphasized the need for immediate and strict measures to prevent misuse of legal entry routes.
This trend has sparked discussions on border security, immigration policies, and asylum procedures in the UK.
