WASHINGTON / TEL AVIV – U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have agreed on a new peace initiative for Gaza, calling on Hamas to accept its terms.
According to the White House, the 20-point proposal requires Hamas to hand over 20 living hostages and the remains of more than two dozen others within 72 hours. In exchange, Israel would immediately halt military operations in Gaza. The plan also includes the release of dozens of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.
Mediators from Qatar and Egypt have already delivered the proposal to Hamas officials in Doha. However, Hamas has yet to announce whether it will accept the conditions, which include long-term ceasefire arrangements and governance reforms in Gaza.
The proposal has drawn international attention, with some welcoming it as a step toward ending the conflict, while others question whether Hamas will agree to the terms.
