LAHORE (Pakistan Post) Across the nation, people mark Shab-e-Meraj, also known as the night of reverence, with great religious fervor. The night the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) ascended to the highest levels of heavens as decreed by Allah Almighty is considered one of the holiest and most solemn events. All around the country, special prayers are held and mosques are illuminated. Like Muslims everywhere else in the Islamic world, Muslims in this country offer prayers, plan devotional events, and ask the Messenger of Peace (PBUH) for blessings. The Islamic calendar states that Shab-e-Meraj is observed on Rajab 27. THE TRAVEL On a celestial animal called Al-Buraq, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was transported from Makkah’s Al-Haram Mosque to Jerusalem’s Al Aqsa Mosque. The episode is highly revered in Islam and is also recounted in the Holy Quran. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) was also given the directive to offer five daily prayers, or salat, during Meraj’s voyage. During the holy visit, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) led a prayer in the Al Aqsa mosque and encountered numerous other prophets. Al-Isra Wal-Meraj, another name for Shab-e-Meraj, describes one of the most amazing experiences that Allah gave to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
