RAWALPINDI (Pakistan Post) – The Pakistan Army has firmly dismissed rumors suggesting that Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir is poised to become the next President of Pakistan.
In an exclusive interview with The Economist, Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, labeled such claims as “false, fictional, and politically irresponsible.”
“Field Marshal Munir has never expressed interest in assuming the presidency, and no such proposal is under consideration,”
said Lt Gen Chaudhry.
The military spokesperson stressed that dragging the army into political narratives is misleading and harmful, especially in the wake of the recent military operation termed “Ma’rakah-e-Haq” (Battle for Truth), which sparked political analysis both domestically and internationally.
🇮🇳 Strong Warning to India
Addressing questions about India’s possible military aggression, the DG ISPR issued a stern warning:
“If India attacks, this time we will start from the east. The response will begin with a deep strike inside India,”
he asserted.
He emphasized that India must recognize that it is not immune to retaliation, and can be targeted “anywhere.”
🗞 Background of the Rumors
The speculation originated from an article published by The Economist on August 3, which praised Field Marshal Munir’s leadership, citing his influence in US-Pakistan relations and a private meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on June 18.
Indian media quickly amplified the narrative, falsely linking the Economist piece to a political power shift in Pakistan. However, both the Pakistan Army and civilian leadership have rejected the idea outright.
Earlier statements from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also affirmed that there has been no discussion, intent, or move to install Field Marshal Munir as president.
