Mastermind of Jaffar Express Terrorist Attack Killed in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province

Pakistan

LAHORE (Pakistan Post Canada) – The alleged mastermind behind the Jaffar Express terrorist attack, Gul Rehman alias Ustad Mureed, has been killed under mysterious circumstances in Afghanistan’s Helmand province, according to Indian media and social media reports. The incident reportedly took place on September 17, 2025.

Sources confirm that Gul Rehman was a key commander and trainer of the banned terrorist outfit “Fitna al Hindustan” and played a leading role in its Majeed Brigade, which has been responsible for multiple deadly attacks in Pakistan.

He was accused of orchestrating a series of high-profile terrorist strikes, including assaults on:

  • Jaffar Express train
  • Chinese consulate in Karachi
  • Pearl Continental Hotel in Gwadar
  • Confucius Institute in Karachi
  • Khuzdar school bus
  • Pakistan Stock Exchange in Karachi
  • Quetta railway station

Security officials view his death as a major development, underscoring the continued use of Afghan soil for terrorist activities against Pakistan.

The United States has already designated the Majeed Brigade of “Fitna al Hindustan” as a global terrorist organization, while Pakistan and China have jointly called for its inclusion on the United Nations’ list of designated terror entities.

Jaffar Express Tragedy

On March 11, 2025, the outlawed Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) blew up train tracks, holding more than 440 passengers hostage near Bolan district.

After a tense day-long standoff, security forces killed 33 attackers and rescued the passengers, though 26 civilians were martyred before the operation concluded. Four security personnel also laid down their lives.

On March 14, ISPR Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry blamed India for sponsoring terrorism in Balochistan, linking the Jaffar Express attack to New Delhi’s broader destabilization policy. He revealed that the militants remained in contact with handlers in Afghanistan throughout the attack.
