Islamabad: The Interior Ministry has officially declared Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) a banned organization and added it to the First Schedule of proscribed groups under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
According to the notification, the decision to ban TLP has been made under the provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) due to the organization’s alleged involvement in activities contrary to public order and security.
Following the ban, all political, social, and organizational activities of TLP have been prohibited. The ministry stated that the case report will be forwarded to the Law Ministry, which will prepare a reference and submit it to the Supreme Court for final confirmation.
It is pertinent to mention that the Federal Cabinet, in its meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, approved the ban on TLP based on the Punjab Government’s recommendation.
Government sources added that there was credible evidence linking TLP’s activities to acts that could incite violence or threaten internal peace and security.
