Former Barcelona centre back Samuel Umtiti, a cornerstone of France’s 2018 World Cup triumph, has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 31.
A graduate of Olympique Lyonnais’ academy, Umtiti joined FC Barcelona in 2016, making 133 appearances and winning two LaLiga titles during his time at Camp Nou.
Posting an emotional message on social media late Monday, Umtiti wrote:
“After an intense career with ups and downs, the time has come to say goodbye. I gave it my ALL with passion and I have NO regrets.”
