New Delhi: A new chapter in cricket’s evolution is about to begin as Indian sports investor and 116 Network executive chairman Gaurav Bhairwani unveils a brand-new format called ‘Test Twenty’, which aims to merge the essence of traditional red-ball Test cricket with the fast-paced excitement of T20.

According to official details, several global cricket icons — including AB de Villiers, Harbhajan Singh, Sir Clive Lloyd, and Matthew Hayden — have joined hands with Bhairwani in supporting this innovative venture. A few former franchise cricket officials are also part of the project, signaling strong international backing.

The initiative was formally introduced during an online launch event on Thursday, attended by Gaurav Bhairwani and other key stakeholders.

As per the official Test Twenty website, the first full season is scheduled to begin in January 2026, featuring six franchise teams. Three of these teams will represent Indian cities, while one each will be based in Dubai, London, and a U.S. city. The exact venues for the matches are yet to be disclosed.

The new format promises to blend the strategic depth and patience of Test cricket with the intensity and entertainment of T20, potentially attracting both traditional and modern audiences.

Cricket experts believe that if executed well, Test Twenty could emerge as a game-changing format, bridging the gap between the longest and shortest versions of the sport and offering fans a new way to experience cricket’s timeless drama.
