LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz on Thursday submitted a resolution to the Punjab Assembly demanding that the federal government appoint Ishaq Dar as finance minister on contract to steer the country out of financial crisis.

Filed by PML-N lawmaker Hina Pervaiz Butt, the resolution said Finance Minister Asad Umar had failed to deliver and steering the country out of the economic mess was not his cup of tea.

It said the PTI government before seeking a loan from the IMF had already met its conditions and depreciated the rupee value and increased the prices of gas, petroleum and electricity.

The resolution demanded that the country needed a finance minister like Ishaq Dar to steer it out of financial crisis.

“It was Mr Dar who during his tenure as finance minister in the previous PML-N regime had appreciated the rupee value and sustained it for years. Therefore, Mr Dar (who is in London) should be appointed as finance minister on contract.”

On Ms Butt’s resolution, Shahbaz Gill, spokesperson for the Punjab chief minister, asked Mr Dar to come to the National Accountability Bureau and courts to get his “appointment letter.”

Meanwhile, PML-N MPA Azma Bokhari submitted a privilege motion in the Punjab Assembly against abolishing free tests in public hospitals in the province. She said after huge increase in the prices of essential medicines, this was another anti-people step of the PTI government.
