President Trump Announces Resumption of U.S. Nuclear Tests

Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will resume nuclear weapons testing, marking what experts describe as one of the most significant shifts in American national security policy in decades.

In a statement posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, President Trump said,

“Since other countries are conducting their own (nuclear weapons) tests, I have directed the Department of War (formerly the Department of Defense) to begin testing our nuclear weapons on an equal basis.”

He added that these tests would begin immediately, signaling a dramatic return to practices largely halted since the 1990s.

Defense analysts say this move could escalate global nuclear tensions, particularly with Russia, China, and North Korea, and may undermine long-standing international agreements aimed at preventing nuclear proliferation.

This announcement follows Trump’s recent remarks criticizing what he called “unfair disarmament expectations” placed on the United States while rivals continue to expand their nuclear capabilities.

If implemented, this decision could have far-reaching geopolitical consequences, potentially reigniting a new era of nuclear competition.
