Islamabad: The 48-hour ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan, imposed after recent border clashes, is set to expire around 6 PM today.
Reports indicate that Qatar is mediating talks between the two sides; however, analysts warn that tensions may escalate further if diplomatic efforts fail.
Meanwhile, Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi’s recent remarks during his visit to India have sparked widespread attention. Without directly naming Pakistan, Muttaqi warned,
“Do not test the patience of Afghans or provoke them too much. If you must, ask the British, ask the Soviet Union, ask the Americans and NATO — they will tell you that playing such games with Afghanistan never ends well.”
This statement echoes similar comments made earlier by Taliban spokespersons, further heightening regional unease.
Observers note that the situation recalls Afghanistan’s historical reputation as the “graveyard of empires,” where even the world’s strongest powers have struggled to maintain influence.
