Mob Violence in Sialkot: Ahmadi Community Targeted, Over 100 Booked Under Terrorism Charges

Pakistan

SIALKOT – “We didn’t know where to take our wives and children. They kept announcing on loudspeakers that if we didn’t leave, they would set our houses on fire,” said Imran (name changed for security reasons), a resident of Piru Chak village in Sialkot, Punjab, belonging to the Ahmadi community.

On September 28, police in Sialkot’s Motra area registered a case under anti-terrorism laws against more than 100 individuals. The FIR includes charges of blasphemy, arson of Ahmadi community properties, and attacks on police personnel.

The incident has once again highlighted the growing vulnerability of minority communities in Pakistan.
